SPIDER TO THE FLY
(Elizabeth O. Shooter, 2002)
40 M Re Dor. #95-0647. [RUBY SPIDER X Seedling]. 9 -
2 1/2 - 1 1/2. Tetraploid.
Come into my parlor said the spider to the fly. This
giant bright crimson red is just as deceiving. It has spider form and
size, but does not meet the length to width requirements to be officially
classed as a spider. Can you ignore these very triangular widespread blooms?
Not at all. These bight crimson blooms with a blue-black overlay on the
outer third of the petals and a 4 1/2" star center of light lemon
tinted green will lure you in every time. Petals flare while sepals pinch
and twirl. Waved, crimped and ruffled. Sepals are edged yellow. Petals
are also edged yellow from throat one-third of way to tips. Tall, straight,
heavy scapes. Three-way branching, 15-18 buds. A big, bright, showy spidery
daylily that you just cannot resist.
