Greetings From Oscie
...
My physical chores were setback a notch due to the illness but the mental challenges are alive and well. I always did think up more things than I was able to do but now prioritizing must be heavily considered on the energy that remains. A lot better than the alteritive.

My favorite subject is setting goals to improve daylilies, I can't take much stock in waiting for lightening to strike. Frankly I doubt if I could recognize a good one in a sea of 50,000. We don't have to insult breeding science any longer.

My goals are pretty much as it has been for many years, A very few accomplishments, too many still in work , and so much still in the thinking stage. I have the up most confidence in the new young hybridizer will carry on successfully.

My order of importance in goals is BRIGHTER COLORS , (this makes distant viewing a reality), flat form on large flowers, consistent performer with vigor, ( we don’t need more runts that require more and more loving care just to survive.) blue green dormant foliage,( this is not only pleasing to the eye but seems to have a long time healthy look,) to locate diploids with genetic breaks , convert and breed into tet lines for further enhancement. My lines are most suitable when out crossing for adding vigor to tired old lines .

Future introductions, like TOP OF THE MORNING , I hold my breath each season to see if it will repeat its good features. I couldn't have chosen a better region to breed for the average gardener and average garden. Fair here is usually excellent elsewhere

Happy gardening , Oscie Whatley

2004 Introductions

DELIBERATE PACE

O-6013 ,( y-5032[ Super Purple x Y ] x Solar Music) 28" - 7to 8", Dor, mid season,
It's the size and bright glowing color that make Deliberate Pace a unique garden subject. The color shows best when subjected to morning shade and late afternoon sun. This bright color fills a void in distant landscaping where only yellows were previous used.I have found it's seedling colors can go in different directions but maintain size and brightness in good percentages.
Fertile both ways. ----Fall delivery $250.00

LITTLE BRASS BAND
O-5819 , (Persimmon Punch x Tet Will Return ) 18"- 4",sim EV, mid- season.
A hot bright bronze with persimmmon overlay is a rare color seldom seen in this height and size. It's long blooming habit contributes great distance color to the front of the border. As a seedling , LITTLE BRASS BAND was part of an exchange of bright orange seedlings with David Kirchhoff back in the late 80's. When Curt Hansen visited David K.,These seedlings caught his attention and he selected one to use in his program. So this line of hot orange seedlings became one of the parents to the 2003 Stout Metal winner.( PRIMAL SCREEM) I doubt if it was LITTLE BRASS BAND because of the petal width. The daylily enthusiastics were hungry for this hot color and Curt made the magic cross. We haven't seen the last of this bright color and LITTLE BRASS BAND will probably make it's contributions.
Fertile both ways-----Fall delivery $ 110.00

PINK ABERRATION
P-6611 (Fringed Red Seedling x Tet Red Step Ahead) MLA 6" x 20"
The name implies different, and different it is. Early morning opener, with very large flaring ruffles, flat and a faithful late bloomer. Front of the border characteristics, short, and a fast multiplier. Made a nice display on the second day tour of the 2004 National Convention (its first bloom of the season). Never misses a season to get a lot of attention. A new avenue to pink breeding.
Fertile both ways $150.00

SASSY SALLY
PO- 6421 , ( Fusion x Tet Ultimate Perfection) , 26" -5 1/2", dormant ,mid - season, 14 buds. )
Of all the tet U P seedlings I have seen, SASSY SALLY has the best color and form to my liking. Being the grandchild of RUFFLED MASTERPIECE it has a powerhouse of super generic characteristics for the hybridizer. Fusion made SASSY SALLYa strong early morning opener with a tough healthy constitution. Don't confuse SASSY SALLY with look a likes it certainly is not an act alike, which makes it unique. The color is a soft pink with yellow tones on the ruffling. The form is flat and positions the flowers facing facing outward. Performance here in the mid- west and in the Carolinas gives me encouragement that SASSY SALLY will honor many regions. It is featured on the cover of the 2004 national convention handbook
Fertile both ways.-----Fall delivery $ 150.00
